Catch up and clean up bookkeeping
We take books that are months or years behind and bring them current, then correct what was recorded wrong along the way.
The difference
Bank and card history does the heavy lifting on rebuild, so a year of backlog is reconstructed in weeks instead of being typed back in line by line.
Months closing one by one, until current is now
Before you hand anything over
How we handle your data
-
Your systems stay yours.
The work happens in your own accounts, on your own subscriptions, under your ownership. Nothing leaves the systems you have given us access to.
-
Access is requested, never assumed.
Read only wherever the work allows it, asked for per system rather than granted in bulk, and named per person. Credentials are never shared, and your records never sit on personal devices.
-
Preparing stays separate from approving.
A second person reviews before anything is filed or closed. On payables we prepare the run and you're the one who releases it.
Who it’s for
Owners who stopped keeping up. A bookkeeper left, or the year got away from you, or a lender is now asking for numbers you can't produce. There's no lecture in this. It's the most common reason people call us and it's fixable.
How we help
- 01 We start with a short review of what exists, so you get a straight answer on how far behind things really are before committing to anything.
- 02 We rebuild the missing periods from bank, card, and payment processor history rather than from paper.
- 03 We correct what was recorded wrong: miscategorized transactions, duplicates, balances that never tied out.
- 04 We reconcile every account, period by period, until the books agree with the statements.
- 05 We hand you a finished set of books, then set up the weekly bookkeeping cycle that stops this happening twice.
What you get
- Books current and reconciled through today.
- A written record of what was corrected and why.
- Financials you can hand to a lender, a CPA, or a buyer.
- A tax position you can actually file from.
- An ongoing cycle, so the backlog doesn't rebuild.
What owners ask about catch up and clean up bookkeeping
How far behind is too far behind?
We haven't met a backlog we couldn't rebuild. Several years is normal. What matters more than the length is whether source records still exist, and bank and card history almost always does.
What does catch up work cost?
It depends on how many months are open, how many accounts are involved, and how much of what was recorded needs correcting. We scope it after the review, so you get a number before the work starts rather than after.
What is the difference between catch up and clean up?
Catch up fills in what is missing. Clean up fixes what is there but wrong, which usually comes from inconsistent categorizing or a software migration that was never finished. Most engagements need some of both, so we quote them together.
Will you judge how bad it is?
No. We care about getting you current, not about how you got here.
What happens once we are caught up?
Most clients move onto ongoing bookkeeping, where we reconcile weekly and close monthly. You can also take the clean books and run them in house. Either is a fine outcome.
